MidCity DC, August 2010

There’s many a U St. boutique vying for the high-style, local design dollar, but four-year-old Caramel has set itself apart by turning its District-savvy eye to the fine arts alone and its fashion sense firmly abroad. In between month-long exhibitions from DC area artists such as Gabriel Pons and Thomas Drymon, Caramel owner Sarah Watkins consistently turns up a diverse array of international men’s and women’s designers sans the Georgetown price tag.

Washingtonian, March 2010

“At Caramel, a hip boutique, eco-minded shoppers can find stylish clothes from “green” clothing lines . . . The store also sells men’s and women’s jeans, bags, shoes, and belts by local designers. The artwork on the walls, which is for sale, is by artists from the neighborhood.”

Washington Woman, The "It" List, July 2009

“This hip boutique not only offers the latest in clothing and accessories trends from national and international designers, including eco-friendly clothing lines, but it also strives for a community focus, giving equal space to local designers and showcasing works by local artists.”

“When I walked into Caramel, I immediately felt positive energy, like everything was in the right place and in the right way. It lured me in, and once I saw the carefully arranged and well-edited duds for women and men, and met the lovely Sarah, I realized everything truly was in perfect harmony.”

“Those of you who have taken the time to wander the U Street Corridor in the past year or so have probably come across Caramel, a trendy boutique run by Sarah Watkins…Ms. Watkins keeps Caramel’s look fresh with at least one new featured designer each month.”

DC North, December 2006

“The concrete floors and white walls of Caramel are home to some amazing men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, and as they run from the super-hip to the classic, many (gift) recipients will be crossed off your list here.”

Washingtonian, September 2006

“This boutique carries smaller lines like New York menswear designer Joseph’s Cloak and LA’s Wendy Hil for women. It also showcases the work of artists from the U Street community.”

Washington DC Style, June 2006

“The cool and clean space on U holds carefully selected collections for women and their style-minded male counterparts. Hard to find labels that appeal to a range of ages, styles, and stock portfolios hang modestly along the walls. Handbags and jewelry are sprinkled throughout the store. Caramel is fun, classy and inviting, swing by U St. to check out this recent addition to DC’s shopping scene.”
